Outlander Filmed Near Here in Scotland
Scotland is one of those places. It is wildly beautiful but remote and not thickly settled. Consequently a lot of the history is still lying right on the surface.
Diana Gabaldon, author of Outlander Series.
So right she is! Here on our doorstep we have the 16th century Falkland Palace (with the oldest Royal Tennis Courts in Britain) representing 1940s Inverness in Outlander; the Bruce Fountain where Frank witnesses the ghost of Jamie looking up at Claire in the first episode; Doun Castle as Castle Leoch, home to Colum Mackenzie and his clan; the fictional village of Cranesmuir; 12th century Aberdour Castle that was Sainte Anne de Beaupre’s monastery in France, which Jamie flees to; and the Reaper Tall ship in the first episode of the new series.See Outlander inspired Offerings
The Old Maltings is unique for its central location in the home of Golf. We are a springboard to 44 courses in incredible locations, by the sea and in the countryside, including St Andrews, Kingsbarns and Gleneagles. The Old Maltings is set in a quiet countryside, near Falkland estate that is the home to red squirrels, deer and a range of birds, and one of the oldest organic farms in Scotland growing salads, vegetables, apples and keeping laying hens. We are close to breathtaking beaches and characteristic fishing villages — there are even Puffins, a short boat tour away to the Isle of May! The Old Maltings itself was built in 1601 and was the favoured distillery of Falkland Palace. The proprietor today is a professional glass artist. Where the original maltings steeped grain, she now melts glass.

Outlander was NOT produced with CGI. It was filmed here in the local area! See REAL castles, 16th century palace, old cobble stone streets, and much much more. You have the option to add on a local tour, with photographs of Claire and Jamie on set; or for an Outlander Style dinner cooked in the house just for you!

We are central to a stunning array of golf courses set in incredible locations. The Alfred Dunhill Links Championship takes place over three venues – Kingsbarns, the Old Course at St Andrews and Carnoustie in Angus – every October. To make organising a golfing trip to Fife easier, book up to five separate rounds of golf, on five different courses, on five different days, at the Maltings.
As a professional artist, I am well connected with other artists in the area. I’ll help to organise studio visits you may be interested in, including my own!
If for one, why not enjoy a guided tour in an open top convertible? Glorious on a sunny day!

You’ll be spoilt for choice. Uniquely positioned in the countryside and beside the sea, there are a variety of walks in the area. Many enjoy the Lomond Hills, local woods and coastal walks through old fishing villages – on sunny days, you’ll even see hot air balloons and gliders! The area is VERY family friendly and cycling groups and hill walking groups regularly venture here. Best of all, delicious, healthy food awaits you down the road at the UKs best organic farm cafe!
